My Glastonbury 2010
MistaJam – Glastonbury 2010, originally uploaded by Rodrico.
Yesterday I decamped to arguably the most well known festival in the world for the very first time – Glastonbury. Being a Glastonbury virgin, I didn’t really know what to expect. Tales of mud, hippies, the cow dung mixed with dirty people aroma, drugs and rockers as old as dinosaurs on every stage were so far from my reality, it seemed like I was at a different festival to the one I’d seen on the TV oh so many times.
Stationed at the East Dance village for the entire day, the weather was a positively Mediterranean 26 degrees with no mud in sight and rather than ageing rockers; the line up read like a who’s who of the British “Urban” (in ” ” for a reason) scene at this moment in time: Tinie Tempah, Chipmunk, Scorcher, Skepta, Bashy, Donaeo, N Dubz, Ras Kwame, Giggs, Roll Deep and of course me. Adding a little Yankee to the proceedings were Kelis and Chiddy Bang. Milling around backstage was the likes of Professor Green, Luke Monaghan, A&R extraordinaire Benny Scarrs & CJ Beatz.
Bar the Yanks, 3 years ago we’d have all been backstage at a half full 500 capacity sweaty underground nightclub. Yesterday we were backstage ready to perform on the biggest “Dance” stage in front of a 5,000 (tent) capacity crowd at the world’s most famous festival.
My boy Rodrico was there to capture the day on camera. Take a look at his favourite shots here.
